For the first time in 28 years, Regent Hotels will return to Australia with a new Melbourne property, set to open its doors in 2030.
The news follows a new deal between InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Salter Brothers, who are excited at the prospect of development in Australia. Under the deal, three existing properties will undergo rebranding: Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach will become InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach; Crowne Plaza Melbourne will become InterContinental Melbourne Crowne; and Plaza Canberra will become InterContinental Canberra.
A second hotel is also expected to appear in Canberra, while voco Gold Coast (the first voco hotel to open globally) will undergo an expansion and upgrade.
“This landmark agreement underscores the strength and evolving nature of Australia’s hotel market and highlights the growing trend for conversions in our industry as guests increasingly seek immersive Luxury & Lifestyle experiences across the country,” says IHG Managing Director Australasia and Pacific, Mathew Tripolone.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing our Regent Hotels & Resorts brand back to Australia after an absence of 28 years,” he added.
The agreement represents more than $1 billion invested in the luxury and lifestyle sector, hopefully drawing domestic and international guests to these properties and supporting the tourism industry as a whole.
