Picnic Island, just offshore from the Freycinet Peninsula, is set to launch a new luxury retreat later this year.
The exclusive island experience has undergone a complete transformation, offering private access, accommodation for up to eight guests, and a sophisticated lounge area.
The change began when new owners Mark Israel and Elisa Yu decided to create a retreat that showcased the rugged beauty of Tasmania, while also embracing comfort and style.
“We aim to deliver highly personalized, transformative experiences that can’t be replicated elsewhere—high impact for guests, low impact for the environment,” says Mark.
“Our vision is a luxury retreat where visitors can disconnect from the ordinary and reconnect with something extraordinary.”

The team aims to deliver a completely bespoke experience, starting with concierge services to and from the island. During the stay, guests will have the chance to participate in daily adventures around Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park, including wine and whisky tours, private yoga, kayaking tours, and more.
The island also includes a private chef, who sources fresh seafood from the surrounding waters and other organic produce from nearby farms to present incredible farm-to-table meals. All dishes can be customised based on preference.
“We’ve reimagined what service means in this extraordinary setting. Whether it’s a sommelier-led tasting of Tasmania’s finest wines, a private yoga session on the deck at sunrise, or a chef preparing your freshly foraged seafood, every moment is designed to create lasting memories,” says Mark.
The official reopening of Picnic Island will take place in November 2025, marking a new age of world-class luxury accommodation in Tasmania.
