Unleash the fun: Brisbane’s Dog Lovers Festival returns

Dog Lovers Festival

Brisbane is set to go barking mad as the nation’s favourite Dog Lovers Festival returns to the city for the first time in six years.

Mark your calendars for the weekend of Saturday, 9th March, and Sunday, 10th March 2024, as the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) transforms into a haven for dog enthusiasts, promising an unforgettable two-day experience filled with canine-inspired festivities.

A new venue

The festival has revamped its format and chosen a new venue to cater to the growing community of dog lovers in South-East Queensland. With dog ownership on the rise since the last event six years ago, the organisers are eager to welcome not only seasoned dog parents but also those looking to welcome a furry friend into their homes.

Festival Founder, Jason Humphris, expressed his excitement, saying, “South-East Queensland is home to arguably the most passionate dog lovers in the country! We can’t wait to welcome all those new dog owners out there, plus it’s the perfect place for anyone looking to welcome their new best friend.”

The pawfect lineup

The festival boasts an impressive lineup, including live performances by some of Australia’s most talented canines, expert talks from leading dog experts, and a variety of engaging activities for both dogs and their human companions.

One of the festival’s highlights is the ADVANCE™ Stage, where top animal trainers, celebrity vets, and four-legged stars take centre stage. Hosted by dog enthusiast Shelly Horton, attendees can enjoy talks from TV vet Dr. Claire Stevens, educational workshops by Dr. Katrina Warren & Kelly Gill, and daily performances by everyone’s favourite animated pooches, Bluey and Bingo.

For those who love a splash of excitement, the Antinol® DockDogs splash zone is a must-see. Marvel at the incredible skills of canines competing in Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed Retrieval competitions, showcasing their talents by launching into a 100,000-litre custom-built pool.

The VitaPet Arena promises high-flying demonstrations and agility galore. From K9 Superwall high jumps to Flying Fast Flyball, Agility, Frisbee, and Temptation Alley shows, attendees will be mesmerised by the incredible displays of skill and stamina. Visitors can also learn how to unleash their inner Wonderdog with tricks demonstrated by Kelly Gill, Dr. Katrina & The Wonderdogs.

Pat a pooch

For those who love to get up close and personal with dogs, the Pat-A-Pooch Zone is the place to be. Meet dogs of all shapes and sizes, learn more about different breeds in the Breed Showcase, and attend free talks and Q&A sessions on the Ask-the-Breeder Stage presented by DOGS Queensland Breed Clubs.

Shopaholics can indulge in the latest and greatest dog products at the festival’s expo, offering everything from food and treats to accessories, bedding, and more. And don’t forget to explore the Pedigree Adoption Zone, where leading rescue groups and shelters connect with potential pet parents, providing valuable information on responsible dog ownership and the adoption process.

As a bonus, all ticket holders gain free entry to the inaugural Cat Lovers Festival running simultaneously with the Dog Lovers Festival. With around 30% of dog owners also living with cats, this dual event promises a purr-fectly delightful experience for pet enthusiasts.

It’s raining dogs and cats this 9th and 10th March at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, and organisers anticipate a sell-out for both events. Please note that, unfortunately, visitors cannot bring their own dogs to the event for health and safety reasons.
