Adina Town Hall has donated preloved furniture from its apartments to families who need it most.
In 2024, while undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, the Sydney-based hotel offered furniture, artworks, kitchen appliances, and everyday household items to furniture rescue charity, ReLove. The organisation was able to give these items a new lease of life with locals doing it tough.
According to TFE Hotels’ Group Chief Operating Officer, Christ Sedgwick, the decision to work with ReLove aligned with the company’s social responsibility objectives, and was the right thing to do.
“With the introduction of TFE Hotels’ Global People, Social Conscience ESG charter last year, we encourage our owners and our hotel teams to make a difference in the lives of the communities in which we operate,” he said.
“And, as a group, we are making a commitment to sustainable practices, so we’re thrilled to see these items go to good homes and not into landfill.”
ReLove focuses its support on women and children impacted by domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness, men and women coming out of incarceration, and asylum seekers. On average, it supports 15 families per week and aims to furnish 1000 homes by the end of 2025.
ReLove Co-founder, Ren Fernando, welcomes these donations as a stepping stone to creating safe spaces for all.
“It has been a great process working with the hotel team to investigate the scope of what can be rescued from the Adina,” she said.
“This initiative not only embodies sustainability but also underscores our shared dedication to making a positive impact in the community.”
Adina Town Hall recently reopened its doors after closing for construction in April last year. Designed by Bates Smart, the renovated hotel now offers 144 refurbished apartment-style rooms combining convenience and comfort for business and leisure guests.
According to Michelle Fischl, director of property development firm and hotel group TOGA Procure, the collaboration between Adina and ReLove built a strong sense of unity within the team.
“Our dedication to ESG – whether it is maximising under-utilised properties for use as temporary housing solutions or donating furniture to save it from landfill – demonstrates how innovation and collaboration can help with pressing social challenges.”
“ReLove were down to their last glasses and ironing boards, so we are thrilled so many goods – big and small – can be reused to brighten the homes of Sydneysiders in need.”
