Next stage of development for exclusive hotel precinct Capella Sydney officially underway

The next stage of development for the Capella Sydney precinct is set to transform luxury tourism in Sydney.

In 2023, Pontiac Land Group began restoring the old Department of Education building in Sydney. Adding guest rooms, amenities and dining venues inside a beautiful heritage-listed facade, the project was unveiled as luxury hotel Capella Sydney.

The building features 192 guest rooms spanning eight levels, three ground-level food and drink offerings, six meeting and event spaces, and health and spa facilities.

Now, in 2025, development has recommenced on the neighbouring Department of Lands Building. Once completed, the venue will join Capella Sydney as The Lands of Capella. This precinct will feature experiential luxury retail, rooftop dining and large event spaces over approximately 10,000 square metres.

The sandstone precinct is one of the largest privately funded tourism infrastructure projects in New South Wales.

According to Pontiac Land Group Chief Executive Officer, David Tsang, “The Lands by Capella, together with Capella Sydney, exemplifies our passion for creating inspiring environments that contribute and help shape local communities.

“The reawakening of Sydney’s cherished Sandstone buildings will not only welcome visitors in for the first time, but also become the common ground for travellers and locals alike to connect.”

The Capella team view this development as a way to welcome the wider community into a luxury experience, boosting tourism and increasing the offerings around Circular Quay.

The Lands of Capella is expected to be completed in 2026.
