Settlers Rest Farm Stay

For a relaxing foodie getaway, Settlers Rest Farm Stay is an easy 20-minute drive from Perth Airport, in the beautiful Swan Valley.

With only one three-bedroom cottage on the property, you can enjoy the luxury of a completely private farm experience. Stroll through paddocks to the river for a picnic on the banks, or pull on the provided gumboots to meet the friendly farm animals. Guests are welcome to feed the goats, sheep, cows, chickens and guinea pigs, and collect eggs for breakfast in the mornings. Make sure to wander down to the stables at around 4:30pm each evening, when the owners walk the horses from their paddocks to rest inside for the night. Every horse is a competition show horse, and they are happy to explain the sport to any curious guests.

The charming cottage was built at the beginning of the 20th century, restored to share its heritage architecture and design. It maintains its character-filled rustic look, yet inside you’ll find all the modern facilities you could want. Whether you want to warm your feet by the fireplace in the evening, or cook up a delicious meal in the spacious kitchen, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The Swan Valley region is Western Australia’s oldest wine growing region, so you’ll be spoilt with the abdundance of cellar doors and wineries just a short distance from the farm. More animal encounters can be had at Caversham Wildlife Park, which is just down the road.

This family-owned farmstay is home to 10 self-contained chalets, a function centre and an amphitheatre overlooking the Darling Ranges. The property boasts sweeping views of farmland and vineyards all the way to the Bunbury Coast, where visitors can sometimes spot ships docking in Bunbury Harbour.

For guests staying two or more nights, your stay includes access to a variety of farm activities designed to offer a slice of country life. The program begins each morning with animal feeding, including goats, sheep, ponies, emus, ducks and a kangaroo. Parents and children are then invited to jump aboard a tractor for a ride around the property, where you’ll discover rolling fields and more than 1,000 roses. If you miss the morning feeding, you are welcome to bring your farm scraps to any of the animals later in the day – they’re always hungry.

Every chalet is constructed from local rammed earth and finished with cedar and pine for a stylish interior. Your accommodation will include a fully-equipped kitchen, separate living room, generous verandas with gas barbecues and reverse cycle air conditioning. There’s even a woof fireplace for roasting marshmallows and escaping the cold in winter.
