LEGO® Star Wars: The Exhibition launches in Melbourne

LEGO® Star Wars: The Exhibition is bringing your favourite moments from the iconic saga to life with life-sized LEGO models and interactive fun.

Star Wars™ and LEGO® fans will be falling over themselves to get to this world-first exhibition at Melbourne Museum that unites two of the world’s most beloved brands.

This extraordinary experience was created by Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught – the only LEGO-certified professional in the southern hemisphere, and it is also the largest collection of life-sized LEGO Star Wars models ever assembled.

With over eight million LEGO bricks (what?) and 25,000+ hours of building, the exhibition showcases breathtaking builds of fan favourite characters, vehicles and scenes, bringing the epic saga to life in an entirely new way. Immerse yourself in a world of epic space battles, giant spaceships and beautiful landscapes from a galaxy far, far away.

“Building the Star Wars galaxy from LEGO bricks has been a dream project, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve created,” says Ryan.

“LEGO® Star Wars: The Exhibition takes some of the most iconic moments from the beloved saga and reimagines them at a scale that’s never been done before. The detail, the size and the sheer number of bricks used to make this exhibition is something truly special. Whether you’re a lifelong Star Wars fan or just love to build, it’s an experience that everyone can enjoy!”

Visitors will have plenty of opportunities to put their LEGO skills to the test. From helping build large-scale Star Wars LEGO landscapes, to taking part in interactive digital activities inspired by epic space battles, including making their own lightsabers!

Visitors can even see their builds digitally come to life, as they choose their allegiance and face off against their friends. Will you side with the Jedis, or embrace your inner Sith Lord?

There are interactive elements and engaging experiences for fans of all ages. Build, battle and explore the galaxy – only at Melbourne Museum.

Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker

Depicting one of the most iconic battles in cinematic history, the life-sized replica of the duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back is one of the centrepieces of the exhibition.

Each character was built independently, with poses designed to fit together. Darth Vader is made up of 41,443 bricks and took 212 hours to build, while Luke is made up of 29,171 bricks and also took 212 hours to build. Amazingly, Darth Vader is almost 2 metres tall.

“A first for us in a model of this scale was the three-point ball joint connection for Luke’s holster. This intricate design demanded careful planning, especially when attaching the second joint, as it had the most potential for movement. Through the strategic use of plates, tiles, and brackets, we were able to achieve perfect alignment,” says Ryan.

The lightsabres were designed separately as well, and then added to the models, with wiring to connect the LEDs that light up their blades. When it comes to LEGO Star Wars, it doesn’t get better than this.’
