About 30 years ago, people started asking them if they could make a really good quality swag. There were plenty of swags on the market, but it was hard to find a really well made, traditional Australian swag. So, after much research, the Murchison River Swag was born, and the rest is history, so to speak.
Everything that goes into the making of these products is the best quality available, including the use of Australian made, military grade heavy duty canvas which is waterproof, rot proof, shrink resistant and mildew proof. It is a cotton/polyester blend of canvas which is breathable yet very durable.
One of the reasons they refuse to use imported canvas is because of the use of formaldehyde which is used in the rot proofing process. This dangerous chemical is banned in Australia and with dubious quality control in overseas factories, it is best not to be sleeping in it!
Quality YKK zippers, rot proof thread, high density foam mattress with zip off cotton cover for ease of cleaning, etc. The swags are 7 ft long, and designed with large borders on both sides and a covered zip in the middle of each border, creating a roomier swag from top to bottom.
The head end features a large hood which can be either folded back on a nice night to look up at the stars or pulled over if cold or wet to keep your body heat in and the wind and rain out.
We wanted a swag that was both simple yet functional in design and offer the user a very comfortable nights sleep in all weather conditions. In fact the materials and design of these swags have hardly changed in nearly 30 years, surely a testament to their quality and functionality.
